Welcome to Geirangerfjord cruise port, a crown jewel of Norwegian fjords nestled in the Sunnmøre region in the western part of Norway. The spectacular Geiranger Fjord has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was named by Lonely Planet as the best travel destination in Scandinavia. The Geirangerfjord is on a lot of people’s bucket list and a must to see when travelling in Western Norway, and the best way to do this is by boat.
Where is Epic Fjordsightseeing Geiranger by boat?
Across the water is a lone waterfall known as ‘the Suitor,’ forever lamenting his failed attempts to woo the sisters. Anyone who wants to can walk the 'Waterfall Walk' (327 steps) down the magnificent river in Norsk Fjordsenter and back to the ship. The Bridal Veil is another waterfall, so named because it falls delicately over one rocky edge, and when seen backlit by the sun it has the appearance of a thin veil over the rocks.

DAY 1
The coast of Norway is fringed with jagged fjords cut into the shoreline by glaciers eons ago. One of the most spectacular inlets is the mighty Geirangerfjord, a popular cruising destination and, along with the nearby Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. When Norway’s glaciers retreated they left deep valleys in their wake that filled with seawater, in the case of the Geirangerfjord to a depth of nearly 500 meters (1,640 feet).
Geirangerfjord Cruise Port Guide 7 Best Things To Do In Geiranger
According to UNESCO, the two fjords are considered as archetypical fjord landscapes and among the most scenically outstanding anywhere. All pre-booked vehicles and their passengers must be present in the correct line at the departure pier 20min prior to scheduled departure time. Some of the fjord's most-visited attractions are its impressive falls, namely Seven Sisters, the Suitor and the Bridal Veil. You also shouldn't miss a visit to Ørneveien (the Eagle Road), where you can catch a magnificent view over the fjord itself.
Public transportation, a church and a hospital are close to the pier. Geiranger Hop on Hop off sightseeing bus departs every hour from the Geiranger cruise ship terminal to the iconic Flydalsjuvet Viewpoint. Matvik is located close to the water almost at the end of the Geirangerfjord. It was one of the last farms to be abandoned (1961) and it was a very fertile farm with 150 plum trees. Skageflå is the best-known fjord farm with a fantastic view to the Geirangerfjord and the mountains around.
One surprising activity in Geirangerfjord is to check out the now-abandoned farmsteads scattered along the fjord. As you cruise down Geirangerfjord, make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the Seven Sisters. These are no ordinary set of siblings – the Seven Sisters is a spectacular waterfall made up of seven separate streams. Their average fall clocks in at around 820 feet and they’re best seen from May to June when the previous winter’s snow is in the process of melting. Included in the trip is a Fjord Ranger from the Norwegian Fjord Center. The fjord ranger will explain how glaciers, rivers and other forces have shaped the landscape, about the great diversity of plants and animals that live here, and about people who once settled here.
One of the many highlights of this tour is cruising the UNESCO-protected Geirangerfjord, one of Norway's most spectacular fjords. Along the fjord, there are a number of abandoned mountain farms and impressive waterfalls, including the Seven Sisters and the Suitor. If you look up towards the towering mountains surrounding the fjord, you will see mountain farms clinging to the cliffs.
Your cruise ship may be offering one, but there are also local tour operators offering fjord cruises. When you see it, there is no wonder why the Geirangerfjord is on UNESCO’s World Heritage list. The fjord is surrounded by a pristine landscape of steep, tall mountains and cascading waterfalls such as the Knivsflå waterfalls which is known as the Seven Sisters and the the Suitor.
These cruises usually depart from Geiranger dock and include a couple of hours sailing along the magnificent fjord, allowing you to admire the attractions and wildlife up close. Knivsflå The fjordfarm Knivsflå is located next to "The Seven Sisters” waterfalls and directly opposite of Skageflå and lies approximately 250 m above sea level. Standing on the deck of the boat and feeling the spray of the Seven Sisters waterfalls is a very special experience. For extra flexibility, we operate a drop-off and pick-up service for those passengers who would like to go on a little hike and spend some time visiting the isolated fjord farm Skageflå.
